Where Do I Find My DoorDash Tax Information?

Locate your DoorDash tax documents and understand all your earnings and deductions for accurate tax filing.

As an independent contractor for DoorDash, understanding your tax obligations is a fundamental part of managing your earnings. Unlike traditional employees, taxes are not automatically withheld from your DoorDash payments. You are responsible for tracking your income and expenses for accurate reporting to tax authorities. This guide will help you locate the necessary tax information and understand your responsibilities as a Dasher.

Understanding Your DoorDash Tax Forms

DoorDash Dashers receive tax forms based on their annual earnings. The primary form is Form 1099-NEC, or Nonemployee Compensation, which reports income of $600 or more received directly from DoorDash, including base pay, tips, and other incentives. If you earn less than $600, DoorDash is not required to issue a 1099-NEC.

Another form you might encounter is Form 1099-K, which reports payments processed through third-party payment networks. For Dashers, this form is issued if gross payments exceed $20,000 and involve more than 200 transactions in a calendar year. All income earned from DoorDash, including cash tips not processed through the app, must be reported on your tax return, regardless of whether you receive a 1099 form.

Accessing Your Tax Documents

DoorDash partners with Stripe Express to facilitate the distribution of tax documents. If you earned $600 or more in a calendar year, you should expect an email from Stripe Express with instructions on how to set up or access your account. This email is typically sent by December 31st for the previous tax year’s forms, with the forms becoming available by January 31st.

To access your forms, log in to your Stripe Express account at connect.stripe.com/express_login using your Dasher account email. Once logged in, navigate to the “Tax Forms” section to view, download, or print your 1099-NEC or 1099-K forms. If you have trouble locating the email, check your spam or junk folder and ensure your DoorDash email is current. For account access issues, contact Stripe or DoorDash support. Additionally, you can find weekly and monthly earnings reports in the “Earnings” tab of your DoorDash Dasher app.

Beyond the Tax Forms: Other Income and Deductions

Beyond the official tax forms, your tax responsibilities as a Dasher extend to reporting all your income, even if it falls below the 1099 thresholds. This includes any cash tips you receive directly from customers, which are considered taxable income. Accurate record-keeping of all earnings is important for proper tax compliance.

As an independent contractor, you are eligible to deduct various business expenses, which can reduce your taxable income. Vehicle expenses are a significant deduction; you can choose between the IRS standard mileage rate or deducting actual expenses like fuel, maintenance, and insurance. Other common deductible expenses include a portion of your cell phone and internet bill based on business use, insulated bags, and other delivery equipment. You can also deduct tolls and parking fees incurred during deliveries, provided they are not reimbursed by DoorDash.

Dashers are responsible for self-employment taxes, which cover Social Security and Medicare, and a portion of these taxes is also deductible. Keeping accurate records of all income and expenses throughout the year is important for maximizing these deductions and accurately filing your taxes on forms like Schedule C and Schedule SE.
