Where Can You Load Cash Onto Your Cash App Account?

Learn how to easily add physical cash to your Cash App account. Discover participating locations and the simple steps to deposit money.

Cash App is a widely used mobile payment service for sending, receiving, and managing money digitally. It offers options to deposit physical cash directly into an account, integrating paper money into digital finance management.

Where to Deposit Cash

Depositing physical cash into a Cash App account is possible at numerous retail locations across the United States. Popular store chains participating in this service include Walmart, Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Dollar General, 7-Eleven, Family Dollar, Rite Aid, and others such as KwikTrip, Speedway, GoMart, and Thorntons. For deposits at Walmart, it is often necessary to visit the customer service desk or MoneyCenter within the store, as general checkout lanes may not handle these transactions.

Before visiting a participating location, users should ensure they have their mobile device with the Cash App installed and the physical cash they intend to deposit. While not universally required, some merchants might ask for identification to verify the transaction, so having a valid ID ready can prevent delays.

Specific limits govern cash deposits. Users can deposit a minimum of $5 per transaction, with a maximum of $500 per single deposit. Cash App also applies rolling limits: a user can deposit up to $1,000 within a 7-day period and up to $4,000 over a 30-day period. Some individual retailers may impose their own lower transaction limits.

Each deposit incurs a flat-rate $1 processing fee, which is automatically deducted from the amount being deposited. This fee can be waived if a user receives $300 or more in paychecks via direct deposit to their Cash App account each month.

How to Complete a Cash Deposit

Once at a participating retail location, the process for completing a cash deposit is straightforward. Begin by opening the Cash App on your mobile device and navigating to the Banking tab, typically represented by a bank icon on the home screen. From there, select the “Paper Money” option, which will often display a map of nearby deposit locations.

After selecting the specific store on the map, tap the “Show Barcode” option to generate a unique barcode for your transaction. Generate this barcode only when ready to complete the deposit, as it has a limited validity period, usually around 15 minutes. Proceed to the cashier and inform them that you wish to deposit money into your Cash App account by scanning a barcode.

The cashier will then scan the barcode displayed on your phone and accept the physical cash you are depositing. Funds are available in your Cash App balance instantly or within a few minutes after the transaction is completed. Always remember to request and keep the receipt for your records as proof of the transaction. If a cashier seems unfamiliar with the process, you can often tap a “Need help?” or question mark icon within the app to display instructions for them.
