This system staggers payments throughout the month. Individuals born between the 1st and 10th of any month receive their payments on the second Wednesday of each month. For example, if a beneficiary’s birthday is January 7th, their payment would consistently arrive on the second Wednesday.
Those born between the 11th and 20th of any month receive their benefits on the third Wednesday. A person born on February 15th, for instance, would see their payment deposited on the third Wednesday. Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and 31st of any month have their payments issued on the fourth Wednesday. This structured approach applies to most individuals who began receiving SSD benefits after May 1997.
While most beneficiaries follow the birth-date-based schedule, certain exceptions apply. Individuals who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 typically receive their payments on the 3rd of each month, regardless of their birth date. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments operate on a distinct schedule, generally issued on the 1st of each month. While some individuals may receive both SSD and SSI, the payment dates for each program remain separate.
Payment dates can also shift if the scheduled day falls on a weekend or a federal holiday. In such cases, the payment is issued on the preceding business day.
