Target’s price match policy allows shoppers to secure lower prices on eligible items. This policy helps ensure competitive value for customers.

Eligible Competitors for Price Matching

As of July 28, 2025, Target’s price match policy focuses exclusively on prices found within its own retail channels. This means Target no longer matches prices from external competitors such as Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy. Previously, Target did match prices from a broad list of online and local retailers, including major names like Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and BestBuy.com.

The policy allows for price adjustments if an identical item is found for a lower price on Target.com, within the Target app, or at a different Target store location. For instance, if a product is listed at a lower price online, an in-store purchase can be adjusted to reflect that price.

General Conditions for Price Matching

To qualify for a price match, the item must be identical in all aspects, including brand name, model number, size, weight, color, and quantity. The lower price must also be currently listed and valid at the time of the price match request.

Proof of the lower price is required for verification. For online prices, a team member will verify the digital advertisement or product page on a mobile device; screenshots or pictures are not accepted. If the item was already purchased, the original receipt or packing slip is necessary for a price adjustment within 14 days of the purchase date. The item must be in stock at the location where the lower price is being offered.

Requesting a Price Match

Customers can request a price match either at the time of purchase or within 14 days following an in-store or online transaction. For in-store purchases, the request can be made at the checkout register or at the Guest Services desk. Shoppers should present the proof of the lower price to a Target team member for verification.

For purchases made on Target.com or through the Target app, customers can contact Guest Services by phone or via online chat. When calling or chatting, it is helpful to have the order number and item information readily available. The team member will then verify the price and process the adjustment or refund the difference to the original payment method.

Items and Situations Not Eligible for Price Matching

Target’s price match policy excludes certain items and situations. This includes clearance, closeout, liquidation, refurbished, used, or open-box items. Prices resulting from typographical errors are also not eligible for matching. Promotions that involve bundle offers, loyalty program discounts, or coupon offers are excluded from price matching.

Prices from third-party sellers, even if listed on Target.com or other platforms, do not qualify. Specific types of offers, such as those requiring a minimum purchase or special financing, are excluded. The policy does not apply to prices during certain high-demand periods, like the week of Thanksgiving through the week after Thanksgiving.
