Users can deposit paper money into their Cash App balance at many participating retail locations across the United States. These include prominent national chains such as 7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, and Walmart. Many grocery store chains are also included, encompassing Kroger and its affiliates like Dillons, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, and Ralphs. Additional participating retailers often include Rite Aid, Circle K, H-E-B, Sheetz, and KwikTrip.

While many stores offer this service, specific participation can vary by individual location. To find the nearest deposit point, Cash App provides an in-app map feature. Users can navigate to the “Paper Money” section within the Banking tab to view a map displaying all nearby participating stores.

The Cash Loading Process

The process for depositing paper money into a Cash App account is straightforward. Begin by opening the Cash App on a mobile device and navigating to the Banking tab, which may also be labeled as the money screen. From there, select the “Paper Money” or “Deposit Paper Money” option. This action will prompt the app to generate a unique barcode.

It is advisable to generate this barcode only when ready to approach the cashier, as it typically remains active for a limited time. At the counter, inform the cashier of the intention to add funds to Cash App and present the generated barcode for scanning. After the barcode is scanned, hand over the desired amount of cash to the cashier. The Cash App Card itself does not need to be swiped for this transaction; the barcode is the sole requirement for processing the deposit. Funds are then typically added to the Cash App balance instantly. Always remember to request and retain the printed receipt from the cashier as proof of the deposit. Some retailers may also require a valid photo identification for verification purposes during the transaction.

Key Details and Limitations

When depositing paper money into a Cash App account, certain financial details and limitations are important to recognize. Each cash deposit transaction incurs a flat processing fee of $1, which is automatically deducted from the amount being deposited. For instance, if $20 is deposited, the Cash App balance will increase by $19. This fee may be waived if a user receives $300 or more in paychecks via direct deposit to Cash App each month.

Each individual transaction must be a minimum of $5 and cannot exceed $500. Beyond per-transaction limits, Cash App imposes rolling limits on total cash deposits: users can deposit up to $1,000 within any rolling 7-day period and up to $4,000 within any rolling 30-day period. These limits apply universally to all users, regardless of account verification status, and are cumulative across all deposit locations. If an attempt is made to deposit an amount that exceeds these set limits, the transaction will not be processed. Funds typically become available in the Cash App balance instantly.
