What Places Take Cash App & How to Make Payments?

Understand where your Cash App balance can be used for payments, from everyday purchases to accessing physical cash.

Cash App operates as a mobile payment service allowing users to send and receive money through their smartphones. It provides a convenient digital alternative for managing funds, enabling users to move money between accounts. The service aims to simplify everyday transactions for its users.

Using Your Cash Card for Payments

The Cash Card is a Visa debit card directly linked to a user’s Cash App balance. It functions like any other Visa debit card, allowing users to make purchases wherever Visa is accepted, both online and in physical stores. This makes it a primary method for using Cash App funds for everyday transactions.

Users can order a Cash Card directly through the Cash App by navigating to the “Cash Card” tab and selecting “Get Cash Card.” Users can customize the card’s appearance, though some styles may incur a fee.

Once the physical card arrives, it must be activated. Activation is done by tapping the “Cash Card” icon and selecting “Activate Cash Card.” Users can scan a QR code or manually enter the card’s CVV code and expiration date within the app.

The Cash Card draws funds directly from the user’s Cash App balance. Purchases are limited to the available funds in the account, ensuring users spend only what they have. This provides a convenient way to access and utilize the money held within the Cash App ecosystem.

Direct Payments via Cash App

Beyond the Cash Card, Cash App facilitates direct payments with businesses that integrate with its ecosystem. Cash App Pay allows customers to pay merchants directly from their Cash App balance or a linked debit card, without needing the physical Cash Card. This method often uses QR codes.

Many businesses, especially those using Square Point of Sale systems, accept Cash App Pay. Customers can scan a unique QR code displayed by the merchant to complete a transaction. This process is available for both in-person and online purchases.

For online shopping, users can select Cash App Pay at checkout. On a mobile device, the user is redirected to the Cash App to authorize payment. On a desktop, a QR code appears for the user to scan with their Cash App. This method allows for seamless transactions directly from the Cash App balance.

Cash App also enables person-to-person payments, allowing users to send money to individuals for goods or services. These transactions are initiated by searching for a recipient’s $Cashtag, phone number, or email. Businesses can set up a Cash App Business account to receive payments directly from customers.

Accessing Physical Cash

Cash App users can access physical cash from their balance through their Cash Card at ATMs. The Cash Card functions as a standard Visa debit card for ATM withdrawals. Users can withdraw up to $1,000 per day and $1,000 per week, with a limit of $1,000 per ATM transaction.

When using the Cash Card at an ATM, Cash App typically charges a $2.50 fee per withdrawal. The ATM operator may also impose its own fee. Users who receive $300 or more in direct deposits to their Cash App account within a calendar month qualify for unlimited free withdrawals at in-network ATMs and one instantly reimbursed out-of-network withdrawal per month.

To withdraw cash, users insert their Cash Card into an ATM, select withdrawal, enter the amount, and input their PIN. Funds are deducted directly from the Cash App balance. Funds can also be transferred from Cash App to a linked bank account. Standard transfers are free and arrive within 1-3 business days, while instant transfers incur a fee.

Situational Acceptance

Cash App’s acceptance can vary depending on the transaction and merchant. International use of the Cash Card is possible in supported countries and with international online merchants, but it typically incurs a 3% international use fee. This fee is waived for users who receive $300 or more in direct deposits to their Cash App account within a given month. Other Cash App features are generally unavailable outside the US or UK.

For services like car rentals or hotels, using a debit card, including the Cash Card, can involve temporary authorization holds. These companies often place a hold on funds for incidentals, which can tie up money from a debit card balance for several days. This differs from credit cards, where such holds only affect the available credit limit. It is often advisable to use a credit card if available, or to inquire about the hold amount and release policy.

For recurring payments and subscriptions, the Cash Card can be used like any other debit card. Users can manage or cancel these subscriptions directly with the merchant. Users can contact Cash App support for assistance in canceling all subscriptions linked to their card.
