This monitoring period is expected to last less than 48 hours, though Medicare may cover up to 72 hours if medically necessary.
During an observation stay, a patient receives care in a dedicated area of the hospital, like an emergency department or a specialized unit. Medical staff will conduct evaluations, perform diagnostic tests, and provide treatment to manage the patient’s symptoms.
