Federal income tax withholding is determined based on information provided on an employee’s Form W-4, which guides the employer on how much tax to deduct from each paycheck. FICA taxes for 2025 include a Social Security tax rate of 6.2% on wages up to a limit of $176,100, and a Medicare tax rate of 1.45% on all wages, with no wage base limit. An additional 0.9% Medicare tax applies to wages exceeding $200,000.
