What Gas Stations Use Upside? How to Find Them

Discover how to locate gas stations using Upside and activate your cash back savings on fuel purchases.

Upside, a cash-back application, helps individuals save money on everyday purchases, particularly fuel. It connects consumers with local businesses, offering cash-back on gas, groceries, and restaurant meals. Users receive a percentage or per-gallon discount, reducing spending on routine necessities. This tool provides savings by partnering with merchants across the United States.

Identifying Participating Gas Stations

The Upside app’s built-in features help users find participating gas stations. Upon opening the app, a map displays available offers in their vicinity. The app requests location permission for relevant deals, but users can also manually search for a city or town to plan future purchases. This allows users to view potential savings before leaving their location.

The map view highlights gas stations offering cash back, showing the effective price per gallon after discount. Users can also switch to a list view. Filters narrow results by categories like gas, restaurants, groceries, or convenience stores. Each offer provides details, including the cash-back amount, which can range significantly, sometimes up to 25 cents or more per gallon for gas.

Before visiting, review offer details to understand terms or conditions. This ensures awareness of exact savings and requirements. The app’s interface makes discovery straightforward, enabling users to identify optimal savings. These in-app tools help consumers pinpoint participating gas stations that align with their needs.

Activating and Redeeming Upside Offers at the Pump

Once a user has identified a participating gas station and arrived at the location, the next step involves activating the offer within the Upside app. Users must “Claim” the desired offer before beginning their fuel purchase. Claiming an offer typically initiates a timer, often ranging from a few hours to around 20 minutes, during which the transaction must be completed. This timing mechanism encourages immediate action upon arrival at the station.

To ensure cash back is successfully received, a payment card must be linked to the Upside account in the app’s “My Wallet” section. This linked debit or credit card is crucial for transaction verification, as Upside uses the first six and last four digits of the card to match purchases with claimed offers. It is important to use the exact linked card for the fuel purchase to avoid issues with cash-back processing. The app does not process the payment directly but relies on this card linking for backend verification.

After fueling, users will either use an in-app “Check In” feature or, if that option is not available, upload a photo of their receipt. The check-in process, available at select locations, automatically verifies the purchase through linked card data. If a receipt upload is required, it must be clear and legible to allow Upside to process the transaction. Cash back typically appears in the user’s account within one to four days, though some transactions may take up to ten days to process. Once available, earnings can be redeemed via various methods, including direct bank transfer, PayPal, or gift cards, with potential minimums for cash-out amounts.
