Cash App is a mobile payment service that allows individuals to send and receive money, functioning as a digital wallet. It offers a physical debit card, the Cash Card, directly linked to the user’s Cash App balance. This card provides access to funds within the Cash App ecosystem, much like a traditional bank debit card.
The Cash Card operates as a Visa debit card, allowing cash withdrawals at any automated teller machine (ATM) that accepts Visa. This broad compatibility means users can access their Cash App balance in physical currency across many locations. The process involves inserting your Cash Card into the ATM’s card reader.
After inserting the card, enter your personal identification number (PIN). The ATM will then present a menu of transaction options; select “withdrawal.” Depending on the ATM’s interface, you might need to specify the account type, choosing “checking” for your Cash App balance.
Next, input the amount to withdraw, ensuring it aligns with your available Cash App balance and the ATM’s per-transaction limits. Before dispensing cash, the ATM will display a transaction summary, including any applicable fees, for your review and confirmation. Once confirmed, the ATM will dispense the requested funds. Retrieve your Cash Card and the transaction receipt.
Most ATMs displaying the Visa or Plus network logo accept the Cash Card. Cash App provides an in-app ATM locator feature to help users find nearby compatible machines.
To use this feature, access the Cash Card tab within the Cash App and select “Find an ATM.” This displays a map with ATM locations, often including those within networks like Allpoint, PULSE, and MoneyPass, which may offer surcharge-free experiences. Alternatively, you can use general ATM locators provided by Visa or specific network websites to identify suitable ATMs.
ATM withdrawals with your Cash Card can involve charges from both Cash App and the ATM operator. Cash App assesses a $2.50 fee for each withdrawal. The ATM operator may also impose a surcharge, which can vary and often ranges from a few dollars upwards.
Cash App offers a way to avoid its own ATM fees. Users who receive $300 or more in direct deposits into their Cash App account each month may qualify for fee reimbursements. This benefit waives Cash App’s $2.50 fee for unlimited in-network ATM withdrawals for a 31-day period following the qualifying direct deposit. For out-of-network ATMs, this direct deposit benefit may waive the Cash App fee for one withdrawal per month.
Even with these waivers, the ATM operator’s fee may still apply, as Cash App’s reimbursement covers only its own charge. The ATM will display any operator fees on-screen before you finalize the transaction.
