Many employers now provide access to check stubs through secure online employee portals. These platforms allow employees to view, download, and print their pay stubs, offering an efficient option. Although direct deposit statements from a bank confirm the net pay received, they generally do not provide the detailed breakdown of gross wages and individual deductions found on a comprehensive check stub.

Proper storage of check stubs is important due to the sensitive personal and financial information they contain. For digital stubs, saving PDF copies in an organized, password-protected folder on a computer or a secure cloud storage service is a prudent approach. Those who receive paper stubs should store them in a secure physical location, such as a locked file cabinet, to protect against unauthorized access.
