Locations Where You Can Make Chime Deposits

Unlock flexible options for depositing money into your Chime account. Find clear instructions to add funds securely and efficiently.

Chime is a financial technology company that offers banking services through its partners. Users often need to deposit funds into their accounts. Understanding these methods is important for managing personal finances. This guide provides practical information on how to deposit funds, whether through cash, checks, or electronic transfers.

Cash Deposit Locations and Process

Chime users can deposit cash at over 85,000 retail locations across the United States. Walgreens and Duane Reade locations offer fee-free cash deposits. Other participating retailers, such as Walmart, 7-Eleven, CVS, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Speedway, may charge a fee, typically under $5 per transaction, with Walmart often charging around $3.47.

To make a cash deposit, bring your cash and Chime Visa Debit Card or your phone with the Chime app to a participating store. Ask the cashier to make a cash deposit directly to your Chime account by swiping your card or scanning a barcode found in the Chime app’s “Move Money” section. Funds usually appear in your account within two hours, often sooner.

Cash deposit limits include up to $1,000 per day, with a maximum of three deposits within a 24-hour period. The monthly cash deposit limit is $10,000. Some retailers or locations may have additional limits or require identification for larger deposits. It is advisable to check your personal limits within the Chime app before attempting a large deposit.

Mobile Check Deposits

Chime offers a mobile check deposit feature that allows users to deposit paper checks using their smartphone’s camera. To utilize this feature, you need to have received a qualifying direct deposit of at least $1 from an employer or gig economy payer. The process involves endorsing the back of the check, ensuring your name on the check matches your Chime account, and then taking clear photos of the front and back of the check through the Chime app.

After submitting the check, funds are usually available within one business day, though processing can take up to five business days. Chime may place a hold on larger checks to verify funds. Chime’s initial total monthly check deposit limit is $10,000, with individual checks limited to $750 and up to 10 checks per month; some members may have higher limits based on account history.

Electronic Fund Transfers

Electronic fund transfers offer convenient ways to add money to your Chime account without physical deposits or mobile check capture. Direct deposit is a popular method, allowing you to receive paychecks and government benefits directly into your Chime Checking Account. You can set this up by providing your employer or benefits provider with your Chime account and routing numbers, which are accessible in the Chime app’s “Move Money” section. Funds may be available up to two days earlier than with some traditional banks, as Chime makes them available upon receiving the payment file.

Linking an external bank account to your Chime account is another common way to transfer funds. This process can be initiated within the Chime app by navigating to the “Move Money” section and selecting “Transfers” or “Linked Accounts.” Transfers from linked external accounts usually take one to three business days, though some may take up to five. Chime also offers a “Pay Anyone” feature, enabling instant money transfers to other Chime users, and even to non-Chime users who can claim the funds by providing their debit card information within 14 days, all without fees.
