For an hourly wage of $18.50, the calculation is the hourly rate multiplied by 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year. This results in an annual gross income of $38,480 ($18.50/hour 40 hours/week 52 weeks/year). This figure represents “gross income,” the total amount earned before any deductions are subtracted.
Annual gross income varies based on the actual number of hours worked. Individuals working part-time, for example, work fewer than 35 hours per week. Working 20 hours per week at $18.50 an hour yields $19,240 annually, while 30 hours per week amounts to $28,860 per year.

This can lead to tax savings.
