How to Transfer Money From Venmo to Chime

Learn the definitive method to seamlessly transfer funds from your Venmo balance to your Chime account, including essential steps and timing.

Venmo and Chime serve as popular platforms for managing personal finances and facilitating digital transactions. Users often seek efficient methods to move funds between these distinct services. Understanding the operational differences between such financial technology applications is important for seamless money management.

Understanding Direct Transfers

Direct application-to-application transfers between Venmo and Chime are not supported. These platforms operate as separate financial entities, and their systems are not directly integrated for immediate fund transfers.

The Indirect Transfer Process

Moving funds from Venmo to Chime requires an intermediary step, typically involving a linked bank account. This process essentially entails two main actions: first, transferring money from your Venmo balance to a traditional bank account, and then accessing those funds through your Chime account.

Linking Your Bank Account

To facilitate this transfer, you must first link your Chime account, which functions as a traditional bank account, to your Venmo profile. This process involves providing your Chime account number and routing number within the Venmo application. Navigate to the “Settings” or “Profile” section, select “Payment Methods,” and then choose to “Add a bank or card.” You will then select “Bank” and enter the necessary Chime banking details.

After inputting your Chime account and routing numbers, Venmo typically initiates a verification process. This often involves sending two small micro-deposits, usually a few cents, to your linked Chime account within one to three business days. You will then need to confirm these specific amounts within the Venmo app to complete the verification. Alternatively, some instant verification methods might use secure third-party services to link your account directly.

Executing the Transfer

Once your Chime bank account is successfully linked and verified within Venmo, you can initiate a transfer of funds. Within the Venmo application, select the “Transfer Balance” or “Cash Out” option. You will then specify the amount you wish to transfer from your Venmo balance. Choose your linked Chime bank account as the destination for the funds.

After confirming the transfer details, the funds will be sent from your Venmo balance to your designated Chime account. The money will then be available for use through your Chime debit card or other Chime banking services.

Transfer Speed and Costs

Venmo offers two primary options for transferring funds to a linked bank account, each with different speeds and associated costs. A standard transfer typically processes within 1 to 3 business days and is free of charge. These transfers utilize the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network, which processes transactions during regular banking hours.

For users requiring faster access to funds, Venmo provides an instant transfer option. This service typically delivers funds to a linked bank account within 30 minutes, but it incurs a fee. The fee is usually 1.75% of the transfer amount, with a minimum charge of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.00 per transaction.
