Linking an external card to your Chime account provides a straightforward method for managing your funds. This process allows you to easily add money to your Chime account from another financial institution, streamlining how you move money and offering convenience for various financial needs.
Before initiating the linking process, gather the necessary information and understand the types of cards supported for funding. Chime primarily supports debit cards issued by external bank accounts for this purpose. Credit cards, international cards, and certain prepaid cards are not accepted for direct funding transfers into your Chime account.
You will need specific details from your external debit card to complete the linking. This includes the 16-digit card number, expiration date, CVV/CVC code, and the billing zip code. Ensure the name and address on your external debit card precisely match the information on file for your Chime account to prevent linking issues. The external card must be active and enabled for transfers.
Once you have prepared the necessary card details, you can proceed with linking the external debit card within the Chime mobile application. There are two primary navigation paths. You can begin by opening the Chime app and tapping on the “Move” tab. From there, select “From,” then choose “Add another account,” and finally, select the “Debit Card” option to enter your card information.
Alternatively, access the linking feature through the app’s settings. Navigate to the “Settings” menu, locate and select “Linked Accounts,” then choose “Link a New Account.” From the available options, select “Debit Card,” and enter the required debit card details. Confirm the action to complete the linking of your external card.
After successfully linking your external debit card, you can use it to add funds to your Chime Checking Account. Within the Chime app, tap the “Move” tab. Then, select the “Transfer money” button. Choose the newly linked external debit card as the source of funds and specify the amount you wish to transfer.
These instant transfers typically complete within a few minutes, providing quick access to your money. While transfers are often immediate, occasional delays can occur. Transfer limits apply and are based on your individual account history. You can review your specific transfer limits by navigating to your Profile, selecting “Account info,” and then tapping “View limits” within the Chime app.
