How to Get Your Dasher 1099 Tax Form

Dashers, learn how to easily access and understand your 1099 tax forms, ensuring smooth tax preparation for your DoorDash earnings.

As an independent contractor for DoorDash, understanding your tax obligations is an important part of managing your earnings. The Form 1099-NEC reports nonemployee compensation received throughout the year. This form is essential for accurately reporting your DoorDash income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when filing your annual tax return.

Understanding Your 1099-NEC as a Dasher

The Form 1099-NEC is an IRS tax document used to report payments of $600 or more made to independent contractors. Dashers receive a 1099-NEC instead of a W-2 form because they operate as independent contractors, not employees of DoorDash. This means Dashers are responsible for their own tax withholdings and self-employment taxes.

DoorDash partners with Stripe to issue these tax forms. The 1099-NEC details your gross earnings from DoorDash for the calendar year, with the total amount reported in Box 1, labeled “Nonemployee compensation.” This box reflects the aggregate income you received for services provided through the platform.

A Dasher receives a 1099-NEC if their gross earnings through the DoorDash platform reached $600 or more in a calendar year. If earnings fall below this threshold, DoorDash is not required to issue a 1099-NEC. However, all income earned must still be reported on your tax return, regardless of whether a form is received. Companies must send these forms by January 31st of the year following the earnings period.

Accessing Your 1099 Through Stripe Express

Stripe Express serves as the primary platform for Dashers to access their 1099-NEC tax forms. Eligible Dashers typically receive an email invitation from Stripe, often beginning in October and continuing through mid-January, with instructions on how to set up or log into their Stripe Express account. This email is titled “Get your DoorDash [Year] tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery” and is sent to the email address associated with your Dasher account.

Upon receiving the invitation, you can follow the provided link to create a new Stripe Express account or log in if you already have one. The platform will guide you through a verification process. Once logged in, you will be able to review your tax information and manage your delivery preferences.

To locate your 1099-NEC, navigate to the “Tax forms” tab within the Stripe Express dashboard. You should see the available tax form for the relevant year. Selecting the form will allow you to view it and then proceed with downloading it as a PDF.

Opting for e-delivery within Stripe Express is the fastest way to receive your 1099-NEC, as the form becomes available digitally by January 31st. If you do not consent to paperless delivery by mid-January, Stripe will mail a paper copy to the address on file. Ensure your mailing address is current in your DoorDash profile to prevent delivery delays.

Resolving Common Access Issues and Seeking Support

A common problem is not receiving the initial email invitation from Stripe. If this occurs, first check your spam or junk mail folders for an email with the subject line “Get your DoorDash [Year] tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery.” It is also important to verify that the email address on your DoorDash Dasher account is accurate and up-to-date.

Login difficulties, such as forgotten passwords or inability to access an account due to a changed phone number, can also arise. Stripe Express provides options for password resets and updating phone numbers during the login process. If you have earned less than the $600 threshold for the tax year, you will not receive a 1099-NEC, which could explain why the form is not visible in your account.

If you believe the information on your 1099-NEC is incorrect, such as an inaccurate name or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), you should contact DoorDash support directly. Stripe is responsible for the technical delivery of the forms, but DoorDash manages the underlying earnings data and personal information. Edits to your tax form information in Stripe Express are typically locked after January 31st, requiring DoorDash’s intervention for any post-deadline corrections.

For technical support related to the Stripe Express platform, such as issues with account setup or downloading the form, Stripe’s support channels are the appropriate contact. For questions about your earnings, tax information accuracy, or if you did not receive a form despite meeting the earnings threshold, contact DoorDash support. They can provide clarification and assist with obtaining your tax documents.
