Mobile check deposit offers a convenient method for depositing funds into your bank account using a smartphone or tablet. This digital approach eliminates the need to visit a physical bank branch or ATM, providing flexibility and saving time by allowing you to submit checks from almost any location.
Proper endorsement of the physical check is necessary before initiating a mobile deposit. Locate the endorsement area on the back of the check, typically a blank space with a line and sometimes a “Do not write below this line” instruction. Sign your name exactly as it appears on the payee line on the front of the check. Use dark blue or black ink to ensure clarity and legibility.
Immediately below your signature, write “For Mobile Deposit Only” to restrict the check’s use to digital deposit. If your bank requires additional information, such as your account number, include it legibly in the endorsement area. Adhering to these requirements helps prevent processing delays or rejection of your deposit.
Once your check is properly endorsed, use your bank’s mobile application. Begin by opening your bank’s app on your smartphone or tablet and logging in with your credentials. Navigate to the mobile deposit feature, often labeled as “Deposit Checks” or “Mobile Deposit” within the app’s main menu.
The app will then prompt you to capture images of the check. Lay the endorsed check on a flat, dark, and well-lit surface to ensure clear photographs. Position your device’s camera directly above the check, ensuring all four corners are visible within the on-screen guide.
First, photograph the front of the check, then flip it over and photograph the endorsed back. After capturing the images, enter the exact deposit amount into the app and confirm the details, including the correct deposit account, before submitting the transaction.
After submitting your mobile deposit, you will typically receive an immediate confirmation within the app that your deposit is processing. Many banks also send an email confirmation to your registered address. Retain the physical check until the funds are fully available in your account.
Once you confirm the deposit has successfully posted and the funds are accessible, securely destroy the physical check to prevent accidental re-deposit or fraud. Shredding the check is advisable to ensure complete destruction of sensitive information. Funds may become available as soon as the next business day, though larger deposits or those made after cutoff times may experience longer holds. Regularly reviewing your account statements confirms the accuracy of all deposited funds.
