Once revenue and COGS are identified, the third component, Gross Profit, can be determined. Gross profit is calculated by subtracting the Cost of Goods Sold from the Revenue. This figure indicates the profit a company makes before accounting for any other operating expenses, interest, or taxes.

With these figures, Gross Profit is calculated by subtracting COGS from Revenue: $500,000 – $300,000, resulting in a Gross Profit of $200,000. Finally, apply the gross profit percentage formula: ($200,000 / $500,000) x 100. This yields a gross profit percentage of 40%. This approach ensures accurate determination of this metric.

What the Percentage Reveals
