The wages paid to employees directly involved in operating the printing machines and packaging the t-shirts totaled $10,000 for the month.

Manufacturing overhead included fixed costs for the month, such as factory rent, equipment depreciation, and quality control supervisor salaries, amounting to $7,000. Variable overhead costs, including electricity for the machines and indirect supplies, came to $3,000. The total manufacturing overhead for the month is $10,000 ($7,000 fixed + $3,000 variable).

With all components identified, the total production cost for the 5,000 t-shirts is calculated by adding direct materials ($15,000), direct labor ($10,000), and manufacturing overhead ($10,000), resulting in a total of $35,000. Dividing this total production cost by the 5,000 units yields a cost per unit of $7.00.

Practical Application of Cost Per Unit
