How to Add Paper Money to Your Chime Account

Discover the straightforward process for depositing paper money into your Chime account, covering methods, limits, and fund availability.

Chime offers a modern approach to managing personal finances, providing users with a convenient platform for everyday banking needs. For individuals who primarily handle physical currency, adding paper money to their Chime account involves utilizing a network of retail partners to facilitate cash transactions.

Depositing Cash at Retail Locations

Adding paper money to your Chime account is done through a network of participating retail stores across the United States. Chime partners with over 75,000 retail locations, including major chains such as Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and 7-Eleven, to offer this cash deposit service. This extensive network provides accessibility for users to add funds conveniently.

To find the nearest participating location, users can utilize the Chime mobile app. Within the app, navigate to the “Move Money” section and select “Deposit Cash,” then toggle to “Deposit” to view a map of nearby retail partners. Before visiting a store, it is advisable to confirm their participation. When you arrive at the selected retailer, you will need to bring the cash you wish to deposit along with your physical Chime Visa® Debit Card or the in-app cash deposit barcode.

At the retail counter, inform the cashier that you wish to add cash to your Chime account. The service may be referred to as a “Green Dot @ the Register” deposit, as Chime partners with Green Dot for these transactions. The cashier will then scan your Chime Visa® Debit Card or the barcode displayed in your Chime app. After the scan, hand over the cash amount you intend to deposit, and obtain and keep the receipt for your transaction as proof of deposit.

Understanding Deposit Limits and Fees

When depositing cash into your Chime account at retail locations, specific limits and fees apply. Chime sets a daily cash deposit limit of $1,000. There is a monthly limit of $10,000 for cash deposits. Users are permitted to make up to three separate cash deposits within a 24-hour period.

Regarding fees, cash deposits made at Walgreens locations, including Duane Reade stores, do not incur any charges. Most other retail partners charge a fee for facilitating cash deposits. These fees range from $3 to $5 per transaction and are imposed by the retail location, not by Chime. Check the Chime app or website for current details regarding limits and fees, as these can change.

Deposit Confirmation and Timelines

Following a successful cash deposit at a retail location, you receive immediate confirmation that the transaction has been processed. This confirmation arrives as a notification through the Chime mobile application or via an SMS text message.

Funds deposited into your Chime account become available within minutes of the transaction completion. Some transactions may take up to two hours to appear in your account. If deposited funds do not reflect within the expected timeframe, review your transaction history within the Chime app. If funds are still missing, contact Chime customer support and provide the receipt from your cash deposit.
