How to Add and Activate a Card on Chime

Seamlessly set up your Chime card and control its features for secure and convenient transactions.

Chime cards, including both debit and Credit Builder options, offer a streamlined way to manage your finances. They provide access to your Chime account funds for everyday transactions. Understanding how to activate your card upon receipt and integrate it with digital payment platforms enhances your financial accessibility.

Activating Your New Chime Card

Upon receiving your new physical Chime card, activation is a straightforward process completed through the Chime mobile app or by phone. To activate using the app, log in and look for a prompt or navigate to the settings or profile section, then select the “Activate Card” option. You will be asked to enter the card’s CVV (the three-digit security code on the back) and set a PIN. Alternatively, activate your card by calling the automated phone number provided by Chime, often found on the card’s packaging. Following the voice prompts will guide you through identity verification and PIN creation.

Adding Your Chime Card to Mobile Wallets

Once your physical Chime card is activated, you can add it to mobile payment platforms like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay for convenient digital transactions.

For Apple Pay, open the Wallet app on your iPhone, tap the plus (+) icon, and select “Debit or Credit Card.” You can then scan your Chime card or manually enter the card details, followed by verification, often through the Chime app.

For Google Pay, open the Google Pay app and go to the payment methods tab to add a new card. You can scan the card or manually input the number, expiry date, and CVC. Google Pay will prompt you to verify the card, often via SMS, email, or the Chime app.

For Samsung Pay, navigate to and open Samsung Wallet on your phone, tap the “All” tab, and then “Payment cards.” Follow the instructions to register your card, which may include verifying with the Chime app or website.

Managing Your Chime Card

The Chime mobile app allows you to manage and secure your card. You can temporarily freeze or unfreeze your physical or virtual card with a simple toggle switch within the app’s card settings. This function is useful if you misplace your card or suspect unauthorized activity, as it instantly blocks transactions.

If your card is permanently lost or stolen, you can report it through the app, which automatically deactivates the card to prevent fraud. From the app, you can also order a replacement card, which arrives within 7 to 10 business days. While awaiting a new physical card, Chime provides access to a virtual card within the app for online purchases and bill payments.
