Below the signature, it is important to write “For Mobile Deposit Only to Chime” to restrict the check’s use and prevent fraudulent activity. This restrictive endorsement is a security measure required by many financial institutions for mobile deposits.

The physical condition of the check and the lighting of the environment impact the deposit. The check should be flat, unfolded, and placed on a dark, contrasting background to ensure clarity for the camera. Adequate, even lighting is important to prevent shadows or glare from obscuring the check’s details, which could lead to processing delays or rejection. A clear photo is essential for the system to accurately read the check’s information.

Users should be aware of Chime’s mobile check deposit limits. Chime sets deposit limits automatically based on factors such as account history and activity. While initial monthly limits may be around $10,000, with individual checks limited to $750, some accounts may have higher limits, potentially up to $2,000 per check and $2,000 daily, with the $10,000 monthly total. It is advisable to check specific deposit limits within the Chime app’s “Move Money” section or account information.

While some mobile deposits may process quickly, funds generally become available within one to five business days. Factors such as the check amount, the type of check, and the user’s account history can influence the processing time. For instance, a small portion of the check, such as $225, might be available sooner, with the remaining balance subject to a hold. Chime aims to process checks efficiently, but delays can occur, especially around federal holidays.

Depositing Your Check Using the Chime App

Open the Chime app on your smartphone and log into your account. After logging in, locate and tap the “Move Money” option, typically found at the bottom of the screen.

From the “Move Money” menu, select the “Mobile Check Deposit” or “Deposit Check” feature. The app will then prompt you to enter the exact amount of the check. The application will then guide you through capturing images of the check.

Using the app’s camera feature, take clear, well-lit photos of both the front and back of the endorsed check. Ensure that all four corners of the check are visible within the frame and that the text is legible in both images. After capturing the images, the app will allow you to review the captured photos and the entered amount for accuracy.

Confirm all details before submitting the deposit for review. Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation message that the check is being processed. It is important to keep the physical check in a secure place until the funds are fully cleared and available in your account. You can monitor the status of your deposit within the Chime app, where pending deposits are typically displayed and updated once the funds become accessible. While deposits may not be instant, the app provides an estimated timeline for when funds will be available.
