For someone earning $20 per hour, the annual salary is calculated by multiplying the hourly rate by weekly hours, then by 52 weeks. Therefore, $20 per hour multiplied by 40 hours per week results in $800 weekly, and multiplying $800 by 52 weeks yields a base annual salary of $41,600. This figure represents the earnings before any adjustments or deductions.

Understanding Gross Pay

Gross pay refers to the total amount of money earned before any deductions are taken out. While a base annual salary provides a straightforward estimate, actual gross pay can vary based on the number of hours worked; for instance, an individual earning $20 per hour working 30 hours per week would have an annual gross pay of $31,200 ($20 x 30 hours x 52 weeks).

Conversely, working more than 40 hours, including overtime at a higher rate, would increase gross earnings. For example, working 50 hours a week, with 10 hours at an overtime rate of time-and-a-half ($30 per hour), would increase gross income beyond the base calculation.

Considering Net Pay After Deductions
