Commercial and industrial properties are assessed at 40% of their value, while public utility properties are assessed at 55%. The assessed value, derived from multiplying the appraised value by the assessment ratio, is then multiplied by the local tax rate to determine the property tax owed.
Beyond income, sales, and property taxes, individuals in Tennessee may encounter several other state-level taxes and fees. Vehicle registration fees are one such example. The standard state registration fee for a passenger vehicle is $29, though additional county-level fees and wheel taxes can increase the total cost, varying significantly by location.
