An extended warranty is a separate service contract purchased in addition to a product’s initial manufacturer’s warranty. While a manufacturer’s warranty is automatically included with the purchase and covers defects in materials or workmanship for a limited time, an extended warranty extends this protection for a longer duration. These contracts are offered by the product manufacturer, the retailer, or independent third-party providers.
