However, if a new line is activated online through the Cricket Wireless website, the activation fee is $0.

A device upgrade fee also applies when existing customers upgrade to a new Cricket-purchased device. This fee is $25, regardless of whether the upgrade occurs in-store or online. This charge is separate from any service plan changes and is specifically for the acquisition of a new device through Cricket.

Additional Initial Charges

Customers may encounter other one-time charges beyond the activation fee. While a SIM card is often included with a new phone or online activation, purchasing a standalone SIM card kit might incur a small cost, typically around $3 to $10, depending on the retailer.

A Customer Assistance Fee of $5 may be applied for service payments made in an authorized retail store or through customer support over the phone. This fee can be avoided by making payments via the myCricket App, online, or by enrolling in Auto Pay. Additionally, a Reactivation Fee of $5 for single-line accounts or $15 for multi-line accounts applies if service is suspended due to a missed payment.

Customers can employ several strategies to reduce or avoid initial costs with Cricket Wireless. Opting to activate new service lines online is a direct way to bypass the standard $25 in-store activation fee, as online activations are typically free.

Bringing your own compatible device (BYOD) to Cricket Wireless can also eliminate the need to purchase a new phone. Cricket often offers specific multi-month unlimited plans and other promotions for customers who bring their own devices. Checking for current promotions, such as those that waive certain fees for new lines or port-ins, can also yield significant savings. Enrolling in Auto Pay can also provide monthly credits.
