Does Chime Do Direct Deposit on Saturday?

Learn about Chime direct deposit schedules, early access features, and factors affecting when your funds become available.

Chime is a financial technology company providing mobile banking services. Direct deposit, a core feature, allows individuals to receive electronic transfers of funds, such as paychecks, directly into their accounts. This offers a streamlined alternative to physical checks, enhancing the speed and security of receiving regular income.

Chime’s Weekend Direct Deposit Policy

Chime does not process direct deposits on Saturdays or Sundays. This aligns with standard banking practices in the United States, as the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network, which facilitates direct deposits, operates only on business days, Monday through Friday. It is closed on weekends and federal holidays.

If a direct deposit is scheduled for a weekend or federal holiday, funds will not be processed until the next business day. For example, a deposit scheduled for Saturday or Sunday would likely be available the following Monday, unless that Monday is also a holiday. Chime posts direct deposits as soon as they are received during the week.

How Chime’s Early Direct Deposit Works

Chime’s “Get Paid Early” feature allows members to access paychecks up to two days sooner than many traditional banks. This benefit means Chime makes funds available as soon as they receive notification of an incoming direct deposit from the payer, such as an employer. The system credits the user’s account upon receiving the payment file, rather than waiting for the official settlement date.

The timing of this early access depends on when the employer or payroll provider submits payment information to the ACH network. If an employer submits payroll data a few days before the scheduled payday, Chime can release funds earlier. The “up to two days early” is contingent on the payer’s submission schedule, and the initial transfer from the employer’s bank still occurs on a business day.

What to Do if Your Direct Deposit is Delayed

If a direct deposit has not arrived as expected, first check the Chime app for any pending or posted transactions. Next, contact the employer’s payroll department to confirm the direct deposit was sent and to verify the correct account and routing information.

Initial direct deposits or changes to information can take longer to process due to verification procedures. Delays also occur if the scheduled payday falls on a federal holiday. If the employer confirms the deposit was sent and the expected time frame has passed, contact Chime customer support for assistance.
