The physical location of the Post Office significantly impacts pricing, with urban or high-demand areas often having higher fees compared to rural locations. This difference is due to varying demand and operational costs. For instance, a small box might cost $30 for a three-month term in a rural setting, but $55 for the same period in a metropolitan area. Applying for a PO Box
Obtaining a PO Box involves a straightforward application process, which can be initiated either online or in person at a Post Office. To complete the application and gain access to the box, two forms of identification are required for verification. One form must be a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state-issued identification card, passport, or government-issued ID.
The second form of identification must serve as proof of your physical address and be traceable to you. Acceptable documents include a current lease, mortgage statement, utility bill, or vehicle registration. Social Security cards, credit cards, and birth certificates are not accepted for identification purposes.
