Both Experian and TransUnion also offer the ability to schedule a temporary lift for a set period, which will automatically re-freeze your credit once the specified time expires. Online and phone methods typically take effect within an hour.

What Happens After Unfreezing and Re-freezing

Once your credit is temporarily unfrozen for the specified period, the landlord or property manager can proceed with running the necessary credit check for your apartment application. This allows them to access the report and evaluate your financial standing as part of their tenant screening process. The temporary lift ensures they have the window of access required to complete their assessment.

After the apartment application process is complete, or once the designated temporary unfreeze period expires, your credit will automatically re-freeze if you selected that option.
