The American Express Platinum Card is a premier travel card, recognized for its extensive benefits and luxury perks. It offers comprehensive access and conveniences across travel, dining, and entertainment, providing a premium experience.
Additional Platinum Cardholders, also known as authorized users, generally receive access to a wide array of airport lounges, mirroring a significant benefit of the primary cardholder. This privilege extends to multiple lounge networks, including proprietary lounges, partner airline lounges, and independent lounge programs. Obtaining an additional Platinum Card typically involves an annual fee.
The annual fee for each additional Platinum Card is $195. This fee grants the authorized user access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection, which encompasses over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide. This broad access ensures that additional cardholders can enjoy a comfortable space before, during, or after their travels.
Access rules and guest policies vary across the different lounge networks available to additional Platinum Cardholders. Each network maintains its own set of conditions regarding entry and accompanying guests.
Centurion Lounges offer access to additional Platinum Cardholders upon presenting their physical Platinum Card, a government-issued ID, and a same-day boarding pass for a departing flight within three hours. Both primary and additional cardholders are charged a fee of $50 per adult guest or $30 per child (ages 2-17), unless the primary account has met a $75,000 annual spending threshold. If this spending requirement is met, complimentary access for up to two guests is provided.
Priority Pass Select membership is a benefit for additional cardholders, granting access to over 1,300 lounges globally. Enrollment is required. Additional cardholders must present their Priority Pass membership card or digital QR code, along with a same-day boarding pass and ID. Most Priority Pass lounges allow one complimentary guest per visit.

The process for obtaining and activating an additional Platinum Card involves several distinct steps.
The primary cardholder initiates the process of adding an additional Platinum Cardholder through their American Express online account or by contacting customer service. They provide the necessary personal details for the authorized user, including their name and date of birth. Once approved, a physical Platinum Card is mailed directly to the additional cardholder.
Upon receiving the physical card, the additional cardholder must activate it before use. This activation can be completed online through the American Express website, via the Amex mobile app, or by calling the activation number. During activation, the additional cardholder may be prompted to set up their online account and a four-digit PIN.
To gain entry to lounges, the additional cardholder needs to present their activated physical Platinum Card, a valid government-issued photo identification, and a same-day boarding pass for a confirmed flight. For specific lounge networks, such as Priority Pass Select, additional personal enrollments are required. The additional cardholder must separately enroll for their Priority Pass Select membership after receiving their Platinum Card, often by calling American Express customer service, and will then receive a separate Priority Pass membership card or digital access.
