The process generally involves opening the gas station’s mobile app upon arrival, selecting the pump number, and authorizing payment through the linked PayPal account. This method often works for both pay-at-pump and in-store purchases within the convenience store. It can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted, including virtually all gas stations, whether paying at the pump or inside the convenience store.

When using the PayPal Debit Mastercard at the pump, it operates within the standard payment network, similar to any other debit card. Be aware that some gas stations may place a temporary hold on funds, typically a larger amount than the actual fuel purchase, to ensure sufficient funds. This hold usually clears within a few business days, reflecting the actual transaction amount.

Another indirect approach involves purchasing gas station gift cards using PayPal funds. Digital or physical gift cards from major gas station brands can be acquired through various online platforms, including PayPal’s gift card store or other third-party retailers. These gift cards can then be redeemed at gas stations, either at the pump or inside the store, providing a practical way to convert PayPal balance into fuel.
