After entering the desired amount and an optional note, confirming the details completes the transaction.

Sending Money to External Accounts

Chime users can extend their payment capabilities beyond the internal network to individuals who do not hold a Chime account. This involves leveraging the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network for bank-to-bank transfers. Initiating an ACH transfer from a Chime account allows users to send funds to external bank accounts, such as for bill payments. These transfers process within one to three business days.

Another common method for sending money to non-Chime users involves linking the Chime account to popular third-party payment applications. Chime is compatible with many widely used platforms, such as Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal. Users can connect their Chime account to these applications using either their Chime debit card details or their account and routing numbers. Once linked, payments can be initiated directly from the third-party app, drawing funds from the Chime account.

While Chime does not have direct integration with Zelle, users can utilize Zelle by downloading the standalone Zelle mobile app. A Chime user can link their Chime debit card to it, enabling them to send and receive funds via the Zelle network. Transfers through Zelle are fast and free of charge, providing another payment avenue.

When sending money to a non-Chime member through Chime’s “Pay Anyone” feature, the recipient receives a text message or email containing a link. This link directs them to a secure portal where they can claim the funds by entering their debit card information. The money is then transferred to their linked bank account. Recipients have a 14-day window to claim the funds before the money is automatically returned to the sender’s Chime account.

Understanding Transaction Limits and Costs

Chime implements specific transaction limits. These limits vary depending on the type of transaction and can differ for individual users based on their account history and activity. For instance, Chime’s “Pay Anyone” feature has a monthly sending limit, which can range from $2,000 to $5,000.

External transfers, such as those made via the ACH network, have daily and monthly limits, which can be as high as $10,000 per day and $25,000 per month for outgoing transfers. “Pay Anyone” transfers are fee-free for both sending and receiving parties. Potential fees for other transaction types, such as expedited transfers through linked third-party apps, would be determined by the policies of those external services. Chime itself does not charge fees for standard ACH transfers.

The “Settings” or “Account info” section contains a “View limits” option, providing details on daily, weekly, and monthly caps for various transactions.
