This action securely transmits transaction details to the machine. Another prevalent method uses QR code scanning, where the ATM displays a unique QR code on its screen. Users then scan this code with their banking app to initiate and verify the transaction.
Many financial institutions also utilize app-generated codes for cardless withdrawals. In this system, the user’s mobile banking application creates a unique, one-time transaction code that is then manually entered into the ATM. These codes have a short expiration window, adding a layer of security. Underlying these technologies are robust security mechanisms, including tokenization and multi-factor authentication. Tokenization replaces sensitive card data with unique digital tokens, reducing the risk of fraud. These digital methods enhance security by reducing exposure to risks like card skimming.
To utilize cardless ATMs, a smartphone is a prerequisite. Users must download and install their bank’s official mobile banking application onto their device.
